While delegates are showcased in a pageant format, Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania is not a beauty contest. It is a competition, started in 2000, to select the most accomplished and articulate spokesperson for persons with disabilities across the State of Pennsylvania. Delegates take part in a multi-day program, including workshops and a talent show. The program culminates in a formal ceremony to feature the delegates and to name Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania.

Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania is charged with a continuing effort to educate the public regarding the dignity, productiveness and basic values of people with disabilities. She must be able to communicate both the needs and abilities of her constituency to the general public, the business community and government. Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania will have the opportunity to travel and make pubic appearances. She will ultimately represent Pennsylvania at the Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant.

Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania, Inc. is a nonprofit organization with no paid staff and few administrative costs. The Planning Committee and Board of Directors consist of volunteers who represent community organizations, businesses, interested citizens and previous titleholders. All expenses for hosting the program are obtained through fundraising efforts, donations and delegate sponsors.
